An automatic, stainless steel, Rolex Submariner with date. This watch could be considered the most iconic, and certainly the most recognizable watch in the Rolex stable. Since its inception into the Rolex line up in 1953 this watch has been worn and loved by deep sea divers, members of the military, movie stars and today's watch collectors. This version marked the second major change to the introduction of the Rolex Submariner with introduction of a date function. This model is the first model to accommodate a date function, launched in 1967, and is most easily distinguished by the type "Submariner" on the dial printed in red. There were six different models of this particular Red submariner dial, and this was the last version before the text became all written in white. What makes this particular dial a 'Mark VI' dial are the rounded 'S' in Submariner and closed 6's in the feet depth rating. The watch itself has a worn case, but in keeping with its age, and that this was very much a tool watch when it was introduced. The condition of the dial is excellent. There is a very handsome creamy ivory colour to the marker plots, and the hands are original to the watch, and match perfectly. There are slight dark spots to the 12 o'clock marker and the one o'clock marker. There is also a slight blemish close to the Submariner text. The red Submariner writing is showing a slight pinking in colour, which is also a plus with collectors of this model. The bezel is original to the watch, and is the correct 'Fat Font' numbers. The watch is powered by the Rolex automatic 1570 movement which has undergone a full overhaul and is in perfect working order, and comes with an eighteen month warranty. It has also been sealed properly with all new gaskets put into place making the watch fully waterproof to the specified depth rating. Although, with these exceptionally collectible watches, putting this to the test is not recommended! the serial number of the watch is clear and present and begins 3.7 million, dating it to circa 1973.
